Big Jon’s Lunchbox came to the community in May of 2011. Owned by Jonathon and Brenda Wirth, the restaurant is not only family owned but also family operated. The Wirth Children are a very important part of the restaurant and its daily operations. Jed Wirth, described as his fathers “right hand man”, can be found cooking on the grill daily. Their daughter Hannah & granddaughter Eden can be found in the dining area as well as around the establishment helping where help is needed.
The restaurant came about after the Wirth’s decided they would like to own a business the family could work at together. Jon had worked out of the home for many years. After working 14 years for the Mt. Carmel School District, he was employed at a local manufacturing plant for another 14 years. He had always had a passion for cooking and preparing food and a dream of owning his own restaurant. Brenda comments, “We opened on a leap of faith, and it’s been good!”
The restaurant offers a variety of foods and services to the community. While Jon is well known for his catfish, ham loaf, and Thursday’s roast beef they also have left quite an impression on the community with their delicious plate lunches, served daily. The restaurant is a great place to find good old downhome cooking! You will find the restaurant serves catfish and fairground fish daily. They also have a great variety of homemade desserts made fresh every morning by Jon’s sister Janet & his niece Kimberly. On Friday evenings they offer different items such as ribeye’s, smoked brisket, and barbecued ribs.
Big Jon’s Lunchbox also offers a catering service with experience helping customers meet their needs for groups of all sizes. They are available for weddings, office parties, large company gatherings, holiday parties and more! Because all the food is made from scratch the Wirth’s can adjust your menu to suit your needs.
On September 9, 2018, moved to their new location at 123 W 4th Street, where they tripled their space. They are happy to continue to be a part of the Mt. Carmel business community and serve delicious food to all their patrons. They invite you and your family to dine-in or carry out and let them do the cooking!
